So the saying goes.
Or is it, "Life is like a box of chocolates?!"
I like both cherries and chocolate, personally. But let's explore the famous line from Forrest Gump for a minute.
Think about our friend Forrest Gump. He met numerous presidents, became a war hero, started and built a successful company, and became a ping pong champion. And he was not as smart or able as most of us.
"That's just a movie!"
Yes, there's a bit of Hollywood magic here, but let's consider the real and helpful lessons about how to generate breakthroughs:
1. Decide what you are going to do, then just do it. Forrestnever questioned whether he could or should try anything.
2. Don't give up. How many times did Forrest go out into the gulf to catch shrimp and come back with enough for a only a cocktail appetizer? That's why I like the daily practice, it prods us to keep at it.
3. Contribute to others along the way. Forrest was a kind and giving person and this often opened up opportunities for him (this was not his intent, which is key).
4. We can be great in many ways. Think if all the things Forrest got involved in! We sometimes get too stuck on a particular goal or future and miss the wonderful possibilities around us.
5. Take the coaching. Forrest was a highly coachable person and listened to the people he loved and trusted. He was not incumbered by ego or hang-ups like most of us.
Try being Forrest for a week and enjoy the sweet life!
