Don offers this great post about how to ensure you are moving forward on your goals. Here's a nice snippet:
"New behaviors often require superhuman effort for you to supersede old, well-cemented patterns of action.
As Dee Hock, the founder of VISA, observes, “The problem is never how to get new, innovative thoughts into your mind, but how to get the old ones out.”
True for thoughts, true for actions."
Yes, yes. Those darned unhelpful thoughts, beliefs, and habits. You notice I did not say "unwelcome thoughts?" Some people defend the very thoughts that are instrumental to their disappointing results.
Do you know the thoughts and beliefs that ought to be retired? This is where a great coach or friend can help a lot. Something is going on that has the wrong behaviors being reinforced and perpetuated. The $64,000 question is - what's the hold up and why is it there?
I have found that many people articulate goals that they are not really excited about. Goals that others suggest. Goals set for the wrong reasons. Old goals that no longer apply. Getting to the right goal for you can often help make the process of reprogramming your assumptions a bit more easy.
Don offers an easy model for personal change that helps illustrate the stages we all need to go through to get from idea to success. Check it out!
