Here is the last test. This is working well. I hope you enjoy seeing the pictures. This is the home base of the Earthships. You can tour this place and learn about Earthships. This is near Taos close to the Rio Grande Gorge bridge.

You can even rent Earthships, which might be a nice way to vacation in northern New Mexico.

New Book About New Mexico Cowboys

Found this cool new book about New Mexican Cowboys and girls called, Making a Hand: Growing Up Cowboy in New Mexico. An interesting look at kids who grew up on southwestern ranches.

Great Albuquerque Website - ABQ Style

I found this great website called, ABQ Style. ABQ is short for Albuquerque. The site offers lots of information about area events and restaurants and practical information for those who live in the area or are thinking of living in the area. There are lots of pictures and the site looks very classy.

I miss living in the area! ABQ is a good central point from which to enjoy he state's riches. It's getting more expensive (like everywhere) but is still relatively affordable. I lived in the ABQ suburb of Corrales and also had an old adobe cabin in the East Mountains (east side of Sandia Mountain). Now all I have to do is make a ton of money so I can buy a second home in New Mexico (my first being in Seattle).

Here is a photo taken in downtown ABQ that I got from their website.

Tiger the Sun Worshiper

Tiger2a

Tiger is like many of his kind. When sun rays penetrate through the window or screen door, they suck him in with their Vitamin D tractor beams. There’s no other place he’d rather be.

I’m just like Tiger.

The sun is peaceful, stimulating, uplifting, and calming. Yes, it can be all those things. Like the grape vines are to Napa, the sun is to the Southwest. It’s the fuel that brings the region’s extraordinary elements alive.

I love spending time enjoying the big clear skies of the Southwest.

Why I Love the Southwest

Nm_012

My experience of the southwest is that it is:

An earthy place - people are grounded and connected.

An artsy place - the land and cultures inspire artistic endeavors.

A spicy place - the cuisine has pep and full flavors.

A meeting place - of many cultures and types of people. This is not always a meeting without conflict, but it adds to the fabric of the place.

A western place - the southwest embodies the western spirit. Boots, belts, and jeeps fit right in.

A wondrous place - much of the southwest is drop dead gorgeous. It’s inspiring.

A wide open place - there are exceptions to this, but the per capita population is relatively low and it is easy to find solitude.

A colorful place - for all the reasons above and literally, the land, homes, and artifacts are saturated with color.

These are all things I value and appreciate about the southwest.

Adobe and Vigas

The details of a fine southwestern home are unique. Here is a great website, called Adobe Building Supply, with what looks like some amazing craftspeople producing beautiful vigas and more.

Check out their website here. Even if you do not have plans to build or renovate a southwestern home, it is worth it to scan the pictures on the site. (This is not an endorsement, I do not know this company. I just happened upon their site and was intrigued by their selection and pictures!)

Woodworkbeams

Click here to visit a website with pictures of adobe homes from builder David C Peterson Company. Here's a picture from their site. I love it! This house is so "me" - can I have it?
