Bozo Explosion

I have been reading Guy Kawasaki's Art of the Start: The Time Tested, Battle-Hardened Guide for Anyone Starting Anything. I got a chuckle out of his reference to Bozo Explosions. Here's how it happens according to Kawasaki:

A Players hire other A Players - This is good and the desired outcome.

B Players hire C Players
C Players hire D Players
And it doesn't take long to get to Z Players. This results in a Bozo Explosion!

I'm giggling as I write this...It's funny but also tragic.

And I have seen this in action. One company I worked (you know who you are) for was suffering from a Bozo Explosion until we hired a few key A Players. What a difference this made! The tide of the organization started to turn and the company's ability to execute improved as the number of A Players increased.

I agree with Kawasaki that it is critical not to compromise on hiring decisions. In Art of the Start he offers several tips on how to cull out the Bozos from the A Players. It's not so easy!

How do we know if WE are one of the Bozos? :0 Maybe I'll ask Kawasaki that one...

Incidentially, I will be meeting with Guy Kawasaki later this week. Keep and eye out for several posts about the interview beginning on Friday.

Bozo Explosion....Hee Hee....So funny.....Isn't it?
