Katie Couric's Attention
I have read several blog posts and articles that mention all the care and attention that CBS is taking to ensure that their new evening anchor, Katie Couric, gets her new job off to a great start. Here's a post from The Business Innovation Insider called Katie Couric's Big Night.
The CBS Evening News is pulling out all the stops to ensure that Katie Couric's historic debut tonight is a smashing success. Over the Labor Day weekend, intrepid reporter Matt Drudge revealed that a number of A-list celebrities and politicians have been recruited to help out with Katie's big night
Imagine what would happen if business leaders gave this much effort into helping their new leaders/talent get off to a great start? Aside from the star power, it's the way it ought to be!
We invest a huge amount of time and money in our new leaders/talent. And the risk is very high if they fail. So why not do everything possible to make sure they start with a bang?
Sounds basic, but so many companies have the attitude that if they hired the right person, he or she does not need any hand holding. This is not about hand holding. The time you spend upfront will come back tenfold in value and reduce future hassle and confusion.
I have not seen Katie's broadcast, in Seattle it is on at 5:30pm - too early!
Do you have someone new starting?
