For New Managers

Most of my books are published through traditional publishers, but I have self-published a couple of smaller books or specialized books using Lulu.com.

I was looking around in Lulu.com and found this book that I thought might interest those of you who are new to management.

Your First 90 Days in a New Job (How to Make and Impact). It was written by William Robinson. Check it out here.

Cover

I am drawn to the cover because it looks like the guy is sitting in White Sands National Monument, one of my favorite places. I do not know William Robinson and I have no idea if this is a great book, but I do know that self-published books are often very good but they don't get a lot of attention from the media or reviewers - so give this book a shot!

Another self-published book that I HAVE seen and can vouch for is Escape From Email Hell, written by fellow blogger Craig Huggart.

Comments

Please be careful of this book and read the reviews on amazon.com before purchasing. I'm the author of The First 90 Days: Critical Success Strategies for New Leaders at all Levels. This book came out after mine and was, in my opinion, an effort to capitalize on potential confusion with my work.

Michael Watkins

Michael - thanks for your comment. Perhaps those interested in the topic can check out your book.

As I said, I don't know anything about this book or author. I am a bit suspicious of the Amazon comments, however, they don't seem natural or typical. I sure hope they come from 6 independent people thinking on their own.

And this brings me to one of the real difference between a traditionally published book and a self-published - sets of eyes. There are many, many great self-published books, but you might have to buy a couple of lemons to find the good ones.

And there are terrible traditionally published books, too, but it is less likely because of the mandatory editing process - several sets of eyes will look at and assess each book.

And then there is the power of blogs - we can throw stuff out there and people will share what they know and it makes life more interesting!

If you pick up either "First 90 Days" books, feel free to let us know what you think with a comment.
